2024 Lemberger Blanc de Noirs
2024 Lemberger Blanc de Noirs
100% Lemberger • Kiona Vineyard • Red Mountain
Sourced from the beautiful old vines (planted 1976) at Kiona Vineyard. This historic block was part of the first vineyard plantings on Red Mountain and the first Lemberger (aka Blaufränkisch or Kekfrankos) to be planted in the United States. When we launched Grosgrain in 2018 we had the wild idea to make a sparkling wine from these grapes and it has become one of our favorites. Made in a Blanc de Noirs style, the red grapes are pressed gently resulting in a white wine base with a slightly brassy hue. Produced in the traditional method, like Champagne, this wine spent about a year aging on the lees in bottle prior to disgorgement, perfectly balancing yeasty complexity with bright fruit. Dry in style with a mere 0.75 g/l dosage.
Dry and lively with frothy bubbles and notes of white strawberry, meyer lemon, pear blossom and lightly toasted French baguette.
