Orange wine is made by fermenting white grapes with their skins and seeds, a process that gives it a distinctive orange hue and a tannic texture. Try three different takes on this style from two different vintages.
2022 Skin-Contact Sémillon
We fermented half of the grapes on their skins for 12 days, resulting in a rich and textured wine, while pressing the other half immediately to bring freshness and verve. Viscous and layered with notes of lemon pith, golden apple, dried pineapple, beeswax and hay.
2023 Skin-Contact Sémillon
Very similar to the previous vintage, the 2023 saw 55% of the fruit fermented on the skins for 12 days, amping up the textural component while still maintaining an acid-forward quality. Pale golden hue and aromas of lemon verbena, Asian pear, dry straw and baked clay.
2023 Ribolla Gialla
This variety is most famously found in the Friuli region in Italy. It is prized for its thick skin, which makes it a great candidate for skin fermentation. Our planting of the variety at Grosgrain Vineyard is the first in the Walla Walla Valley. The grapes were fermented on their skins for two weeks before aging for 11 months in neutral barrels. Deep gold with chewy tannins and aromas of baked spiced quince, toasted nuts, honeysuckle and black tea.
