2022 Cabernet Sauvignon
2022 Cabernet Sauvignon
75% Cabernet Sauvignon/ 13% Merlot/ 12% Cabernet Franc
Grosgrain Vineyard · Walla Walla Valley
Our 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is the first to be sourced entirely from our estate Grosgrain Vineyard. Grosgrain Vineyard is a high elevation site (1400’), 15 minutes south of our winery on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley. The hillside vineyard slopes to the South and features shallow silt soils over fractured basalt, imbuing the wines with a distinct volcanic influence. Strong winds from the Southwest restrain ripening and result in small berries with thick skins that give the wines a unique combination of freshness, elegance, structure and aromatic concentration.
This high-elevation, windy site produces a more structured style of Cabernet compared to our prior Cabernet bottlings from Seven Hills, similar to what you might find in mountainous regions in California such as Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains, yet with a distinctive impact from the basalt terroir. This wine is just starting to unfurl and should be fun to follow over the next decade.
Deep ruby and firmly structured with grippy tannin and mouthwatering acidity, aromas of red currant, mulberry, cigar box and graphite. A vin de garde that will shine with a few years in your cellar.
Aged 22 months in French Oak barrels (39% new).
