Charbono isn't a grape that you see everyday in the Pacific Northwest and in fact comes from the very first planting in the region at Windrow Vineyard in 2009.  Charbono originated in Savoie, France where it is known as Douce Noir.  Plantings are scare in Europe these days, however, and today it can mostly be found in California, where it was brought by early Italian settlers, or in Argentina, where it is known as Bonarda and is the second most planted red grape variety after Malbec.

It is a very late ripening variety, which produces deeply colored, full-bodied wines that maintain freshness due to ample acidity and typically moderate alcohol levels, even in very warm climates like Walla Walla.  Windrow Vineyard sits at the edge of the Rocks District sub appelation, an area known for a distincitve savory profile which can be found in this wine.

Inky purple and plush with aromas of kalamata olive, blackcurrant, blueberry, oregano and wet cement.

Aged 17 months in neutral French oak barrels.
