2022 GV Carignan
2022 Carignan
Grosgrain Vineyard • Walla Walla Valley
You may have had a Grosgrain Carignan before from our estate Old Milton Vineyard adjacent to our tasting room, but this is the first release from our other property 15 minutes to the south on the Oregon side of the Walla Walla Valley: Grosgrain Vineyard. 650 feet higher in elevation than our winery and planted into shallow soils on top of fractured basalt, Grosgrain Vineyard is a whole different animal. There is a certain minerality in wines from volcanic regions (Sicily, Campania, Canary Islands, etc) and this wine has it in spades. A light red, yet more structured than Carignan from Old Milton Vineyard. This wine is approachable now, but should have a long life ahead of it.
Translucent ruby- colored with chalky tannins and aromas of cherry, red currant, violets, wild sage and volcanic rock.
Aged 11 months in neutral French oak barrels.
