2021 Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon
2021 Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon
Walla Walla Valley
Our 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon sees a transition from Seven Hills Vineyard to a blend to a blend of two sites that sit at higher elevation just to the South: Southwind Vineyard and Grosgrain Vineyard. Southwind sits at the top of the next ridge over from Grosgrain Vineyard at a similar elevation (1400') and with similar shallow silt soils over fractured basalt. We had very limited production from Grosgrain Vineyard in 2021 (just one barrel of Cabernet), so this wine is predominantly from Southwind and a nice preview of future vintages which will be entirely from our estate.
These high elevation, windy sites produce a more structured style of Cabernet compared to Seven Hills, similar to what you might find in mountainous regions in California sucha as Mount Veeder in the Napa Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains, yet with a distinctive impact from the basalt terroir. This wine is just starting to unfurl and should be fun to follow over the next decade.
Deep ruby hued with fine tannin and aromas of black cherry, red currant, tomato leaf, singed oak and wet stone.
